Neverending Datacycle
As you all know, recently there was a debate about the applications that many people use. One of the communication applications that we use reported that they will change their policy about usage and privacy. People freaked out.
Privacy and security is the top problem whenever a new unknown technology when presented to the public. Because we don't know (or more precisely, don't care) about the terms of use of those applications, programs or devices we just try them and learn them by experiencing them. Have you ever seen a person who reads the manual of a device nowadays? Yeah, me neither.
The human being is a curious animal, that is a fact. Being curious without bothering others is great because it leads us to learn more. However, our curiosity is limited. Who cares about the rules and a piece of paper about how to use the products! Just try and learn it. Well, if it only concerns you, then it is quite alright to challenge yourself to understand how things work, but when the case is about all the people who use it online, then the limitations, terms of uses, regulations gain important value. Especially when this is all include your privacy and private information.
Although we are curious, we are blind. The certain feeling of knowing all, kills our curiosity. When you know all, that means you can deal with everything, right? Well, no.
Applications we use makes us accept much information we don't even care about at that moment. As you are aware, they all cost you something in return, in time. When you wander around the posts on any social media platform, you always encounter the advertisements you were talking about. Some of these platforms even exaggerate this and presents you the product you were telling to your friends just a minute ago. Also, you see these ads after every five posts, check it out if you did not realize it before.
Yes, it is the age of information and the intel is power. If you have enough intel about the others (and if you know how to use this data) you can somewhat dominate their life. Having less private information on those social platforms or just a few of those accounts in total may prevent us to spread our personal intel. Deleting them and removing your trace in time is even better but once we consume more and more content from them, we become addicted.
Maybe as a 2021 resolution, we might add a new rule for ourselves. "Use fewer social media accounts!" or "Decrease the time of usage!"
Are we powerful enough to control our own information?
